Named after Gugurmin, the Celestial Emu, a powerful figure in Wiradjuri culture believed to appear as a giant emu in the Milky Way’s dark clouds.

Model is 6'1, 106kg & is wearing a large. These are a larger fit.

The artwork featured on our Gugurmin Shorts is titled ‘Emu Dreaming’ or ‘Utinat Ritjinguthinha’ in the Kalkadoon language, created by the talented artist Chernee Sutton. This design reflects the ancient connection of the Kalkadoon people to the stars and their understanding of the natural world.

For thousands of years, Aboriginal people have looked to the stars to follow their dreaming tracks or songlines, gaining deep insights into the movements of the sun, moon, planets, and stars. This painting tells the story of the Emu in the Sky and the stone emu nests. Each autumn, as the Milky Way passes over Kalkadoon Country and the Emu in the Sky shines brightly, it signals the time to collect emu eggs for food. The Kalkadoon people carefully take only a few eggs, ensuring the emu can continue to thrive and repopulate the land.

At Wai Swim, we honor Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) by sharing these rich stories and respecting the deep knowledge embedded within them.

A portion of proceeds from these shorts contributes to supporting Indigenous communities, helping to preserve their culture and sustain their connection to Country.
